New Venture by CenseoHealth Brings Chronic Care Management to the Home

By CenseoHealth Media Relations on Jun 15, 2016 12:25:00 PM

New company focused on in-home care for chronically ill Medicare patients aims to improve quality of care for difficult-to-treat populations and reduce overall costs.

DALLAS, June 15, 2016 – Censeo Health LLC,  a leading provider of in-home health assessments conducted by physicians, announced Wednesday the formation of Principium Health, a new business unit focused on delivering high-touch, high quality healthcare services to the frail elderly.

Principium will be led by value-based healthcare expert, Kevin P. Murphy, who has joined Principium as chief executive officer to spearhead the development of this business unit and oversee strategy, growth and operations.

Since its founding in 2009, CenseoHealth has become one of the nation’s leading providers of in-home health assessments conducted by physicians, helping to improve the quality of care and reduce healthcare costs for Medicare Advantage, Commercial, and Medicaid plan members.

Principium represents a meaningful investment in enhancing the in-home delivery model to enable a comprehensive, longitudinal chronic care model serving the frail elderly patient population, a significant pain point among managed care operators. With the addition of Principium, CenseoHealth will be able to deliver its managed care customers a patient-centered care model that improves care quality for a difficult-to-treat population while reducing unnecessary medical costs. To support this strategic priority, CenseoHealth is investing in technology and human capital to deliver a truly unique service offering to the market that Murphy will now lead.

Murphy is a value-based healthcare industry expert with an established track record for improving quality of care and patient satisfaction while lowering the overall cost of care for high risk patient populations. Murphy successfully managed high risk patient populations for one of the leading Pioneer ACOs and also managed five of the most successful physician practices that participated in the Independence At Home CMS Demonstration Project, which—driven by Murphy’s leadership—were responsible for more than 85% of the entire demonstration’s savings in its first year. Independence At Home has been touted as “[t]he most financially successful demonstration in the history of the Medicare Program,” by Patrick Conway, M.D., M.Sc., Chief Medical Officer and Director of the Office of Clinical Standards and Quality, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

“I am excited to have Kevin join our team,” said Kevin McNamara, CenseoHealth’s Chief Executive Officer. “His track record of success and dynamic leadership experience in managing successful accountable care operations is unparalleled in the industry and will contribute substantially to both our company’s and our clients’ continued success.”

Prior to joining CenseoHealth to launch Principium, Murphy served as Chief Operating Officer for U.S. Medical Management, the nation’s leader for in-home medicine. Murphy transformed USMM from a 17-year-old fee-for-service, physician-led house call practice into the most comprehensive and successful in-home accountable care organization. Murphy’s contributions were instrumental in developing successful population health management strategies, driving business expansion and executing quality accountable care programs that deliver on healthcare’s triple aim.

“CenseoHealth has done remarkable work in engaging health plan members and delivering high quality, in-home care solutions,” said Murphy. “I am eager to join the team and to help us capitalize on the burgeoning opportunities that will shape the future of healthcare by expanding CenseoHealth’s home-based services.”

CenseoHealth is Prepared for ICD-10 Transition

By CenseoHealth Media Relations on Sep 22, 2015 9:28:00 AM

DALLAS – September 22, 2015 – Censeo Health LLC, an industry leader of physician-performed health assessment solutions which assist health plans to collect accurate data on their members for optimal care coordination, announces its preparedness for the transition from International Classification of Diseases, Ninth Revision, Clinical Modification (ICD-9-CM) to ICD-10.

As the nation transitions to ICD-10 coding on October 1, 2015, health plans and physicians continue to express concerns that it will take time to adapt to the new version of codes. ICD-10 codes, which provide greater specificity to better represent and communicate a patient’s clinical conditions, increased the number of diagnosis codes from 13,000 ICD-9 codes to approximately 68,000 ICD-10 codes.

When it comes to ICD-10 codes, CenseoHealth’s comprehensive health assessment, CenseoCareConsult, can help ease the coding transition pains for health plans. CenseoHealth’s CareConsult assessment can be pre-populated with member-specific medical history (claims history, pharmacy data, DME, etc.), giving the evaluating physician great insight into what the patient’s treating physician(s) have already diagnosed, information that may not always be available to each patient’s primary care physician. Once the CareConsult is complete and ICD-10 coded, health plans will have a more current and comprehensive medical record of their member, providing information needed by both the health plan and the member’s primary care physician to improve care coordination for, and provide preventative care services to, the member.

In preparation for the transition to ICD-10, CenseoHealth released several updates to its proprietary CareConsult assessment earlier this summer to improve the specificity of the evaluating physicians’ documentation, which will in turn allow CenseoHealth’s coders to document ICD-10 codes as accurately as possible. “All CenseoHealth coders have been thoroughly trained on ICD-10 coding. We are pleased to provide health insurance plans a dependable solution for accurate ICD-10 documentation as the industry transitions to this more rigorous, but more precise, set of codes,” said CenseoHealth’s Director of Quality, Joy Ridlehuber, RN, MSN, CPC.

CenseoHealth Supports Health Insurance Marketplace Plans with Health Assessment Programs

By CenseoHealth Media Relations on Sep 3, 2015 1:07:00 PM

DALLAS – September 03, 2015 - CenseoHealth an industry leader of physician-performed health assessment solutions for Medicare Advantage plans, has partnered with Health Insurance Marketplace (HIX) and Commercial plans in 2015 to provide their members health assessments at their home, workplace, primary care physician’s office or retail clinic.

CenseoHealth is proud to support this new market in their effort to provide quality care to this previously uninsured population.

According to a June 2015 RAND Corporation study, the Affordable Care Act provided health insurance coverage to 16.9 million newly insured Americans. With no health history on these individuals, it is critical HIX plans are doing what they can to get their members connected to primary care and case management if needed.

By partnering with CenseoHealth, HIX plans are able to offer their members quality time with a physician at a location that is convenient for them. Members appreciate the thoroughness of the health assessment and recommendations. With the data collected from the assessment, health plans are then able to better understand the health needs of their members and assist them in navigating their care and recommended preventative services.

Satisfaction with CenseoHealth health assessments is high. The following are testimonials from health plan members who have received a CenseoHealth’s physician health assessment:

“I am a retired nurse and I never saw the point in scheduling these visits, but decided to give it a try. The physician diagnosed my husband with a heart problem and advised us to follow up with our primary care physician. When we visited with the doctor, he found the diagnosis to be correct. It is a serious condition and were it not for the CenseoHealth assessment, my husband probably wouldn’t be here today. Now my husband and I look forward to scheduling these in the future.”

“I originally didn’t think I needed the visit. The physician noticed changes that I didn’t even see, and detected pancreatic cancer. I am so appreciative and thankful for what CenseoHealth is doing.”

“The physician who visited me was wonderful. He was very professional, extremely nice, and patient. I had such a wonderful experience with the visit, I will be recommending this to all my friends.”

CenseoHealth is a proud sponsor of the 2015 RISE 4th Annual Health Insurance Exchange Summit in Scottsdale, AZ. The Company looks forward to supporting the Health Insurance Marketplace plans with health assessment solutions that help health plans improve member experience and health outcomes.

Statement by Censeo Health, LLC on Government Declination in Qui Tam Case

By CenseoHealth Media Relations on Aug 12, 2015 2:24:00 PM

DALLAS – August 12, 2015 – CenseoHealth is proud of the work we do on behalf of health plans and their Medicare recipients and is committed to full compliance with federal law and to operating under the highest ethical standards.

Federal law authorizes individuals to file lawsuits (called qui tam actions) alleging that fraud has been committed against the government and receive a portion of any recovery if there is one. The U.S. Department of Justice is required to investigate the allegations and may intervene in the lawsuit if it believes the lawsuit has merit.

Given our commitment to the highest ethical standards, we were pleased when after conducting a detailed investigation of the qui tam lawsuit, the Department of Justice, in June, decided not to intervene in a lawsuit filed against the company by a former employee relating to the company's in-home assessment program. If the former employee decides to take the case forward, notwithstanding the government's refusal to join in the lawsuit, we are confident that the evidence will continue to show that the company acted properly and legally.

CenseoHealth Appoints Kevin McNamara as CEO

By CenseoHealth Media Relations on Mar 17, 2015 12:37:00 PM

David Brailer to become chairman of the board

DALLAS – March 17, 2015 – CenseoHealth, a leading provider of in-home physician assessments, today announced the appointment of Kevin McNamara as chief executive officer. Kevin will work closely with CenseoHealth’s Co-founder and President, Bales Nelson, to drive strategic growth while further expanding the company’s suite of services to meet growing demand. In conjunction with this appointment, David Brailer will assume the role of chairman of the CenseoHealth board.

Founded in 2009, CenseoHealth’s in-home physician visits help improve the quality of care and reduce healthcare costs for Medicare Advantage, Commercial, and Medicaid plan members. CenseoHealth’s services fill a critical role in the healthcare delivery system as demand for primary care grows despite a shortage of primary care physicians, while best practices are sought to collect comprehensive health information such as medication compliance, risks and other factors that can drive appropriate follow-up care. CenseoHealth anticipates substantial growth in the market as risk-based managed care programs grow and Affordable Care Act exchanges expand with every open-enrollment period.

“It’s an exciting time to be working at CenseoHealth because the company is well positioned as the market leader in mobile physician network services,” McNamara said. “I believe we have a major opportunity to build a new form of healthcare delivery that enhances the health of our customers’ members while reducing the cost and improving health outcomes, all in the member’s home.”

“I’m pleased to work with Kevin, Bales and the whole CenseoHealth team as they continue to lead the market for mobile healthcare,” Brailer said. “I look forward to helping CenseoHealth pursue long-term growth initiatives while consistently driving value for its customers in healthcare’s evolving environment.”

“We will gain a lot from expanding the leadership team with two proven healthcare leaders who understand our business model and how best to leverage our current and future services for the benefit of our customers,” said Nelson. “David and Kevin have successful track records in providing advanced technology and services within the healthcare industry; their business acumen and leadership skills will add value for our company, our customers and investors.”

McNamara previously was CenseoHealth’s executive chairman. Prior to CenseoHealth, he served as executive vice president, chief financial officer, and treasurer at managed care organization HealthSpring, Inc., and held executive positions with other companies in the healthcare industry. Brailer, a CenseoHealth board member and managing partner of Health Evolution Partners, an investor in CenseoHealth, holds the distinction of being America’s first National Coordinator for Health Information Technology.

By CenseoHealth Media Relations on Jul 23, 2013 4:42:00 PM

Co-Founder and CEO leaves company a leader in care management and new Executive Chairman, Kevin McNamara, complements existing team

DALLAS, July 23, 2013 – CenseoHealth, a pioneer in physician home consulting, today announced the retirement of its Chief Executive Officer, Jack McCallum, MD, PhD. In conjunction with McCallum’s retirement, the Company announced the appointment of Kevin McNamara as its Executive Chairman. McNamara, a veteran of the managed care industry and previously a director of CenseoHealth, will continue working with the management team to strengthen the company’s market position and support its growth as a leader in physician-led care management services for health plans.

CenseoHealth was founded in 2009 by Jack McCallum and Bales Nelson. Under their leadership, CenseoHealth has introduced an innovative product suite of health assessment and care management solutions, built a substantial market position, and attracted a high-caliber management team. The team will remain in place to continue to drive the business through the next phase of its corporate evolution.

“Co-founding CenseoHealth and serving as its CEO have been among the most dynamic and exciting opportunities of my career,” said McCallum. “I’m tremendously proud of the work we’ve done over the past four years. Having laid the groundwork for retirement for some time, I have every confidence in the team and am excited to watch their progress in the years to come. ”

“Jack has been a great partner in building this business. Thanks to his leadership and the rapid adoption of our products and services in the market, CenseoHealth has seen record growth, including the previously announced expansion of our headquarters and creation of 140 new jobs later this year,” said Bales W. Nelson, fellow CenseoHealth co-founder and President of the company. “The management team is grateful for Jack’s contributions and we wish him well in his retirement. The team remains strongly committed to the strategy we’ve defined and implemented together over these past years.”

As the new CenseoHealth Executive Chairman, McNamara will work with Nelson and the rest of the management team to accelerate growth in the business, introduce new product and service offerings, and execute on its overall strategy. McNamara brings a wealth of industry, operating and board of director’s experience to the CenseoHealth team. Most recently, McNamara served as EVP and Chief Financial Officer of the managed care organization, HealthSpring, where he oversaw the successful IPO of the company on the NYSE. He has also held leadership positions with health transactions facilitators ProxyMed, Inc. (Non-Executive Chairman and Interim Chief Executive Officer) and Envoy (Chief Financial Officer and Director), clinical recruitment service provider and strategic planning firm HCCA International, Inc. (Chief Financial Officer), among others. “I see immense opportunities ahead in the managed care industry”, said McNamara. “CenseoHealth has the right mix of capabilities and management talent, and I’m excited to expand my role with the business and work with the team in pursuit of those opportunities.”

Brailer, PhD, MD, CEO and Managing Partner of Health Evolution Partners, which made a major investment in the company last year. “Jack and the team recognized that the quality and cost-effectiveness of care can be improved by placing physicians at an oft-overlooked site, the home. CenseoHealth to Hire Over 100 New Employees and Expand Office Space

By CenseoHealth Media Relations on May 1, 2013 1:06:00 PM

New Employees Hired to Meet Demand for Company's CareConsult™

DALLAS, May 1, 2013 – CenseoHealth, a pioneer in physician home consultations, announced today the Company will expand its corporate headquarters in Dallas, TX; creating approximately 140 new jobs over the next three months. This expansion will support increased demand for the Company’s suite of services, including its in-home consultation service, CareConsult™. These consultations are conducted by one of CenseoHealth’s physicians and have shown to improve communication between individuals and their primary care providers, leading to improved quality of care for plan members.

In line with the goals of more than 30 health insurance plans contracted with CenseoHealth, the Company will complete more than twice as many CareConsults this year compared to 2012. Additionally, by capitalizing on starting these evaluations early, CenseoHealth’s clients propelled the Company into a record-setting first quarter, increasing the number of evaluations completed year over year by 250 percent. Annually scheduling CareConsults prior to February 1st enables health plans to target more high-risk populations and identify and address gaps in care during the HEDIS data collection period.

“Our cutting-edge services have transformed CenseoHealth into one of the largest and fastest-growing physician home consultation providers in the United States,” said Dr. Jack McCallum, CEO of CenseoHealth. “The health plans we work with recognize the value CareConsult provides both in more accurately documenting diagnoses and in improving members’ care and quality of life.”

This expansion marks several new milestones for CenseoHealth. In addition to creating new jobs, CenseoHealth will add 18,000 square-feet of office space; an 85 percent increase from the Company’s current 21,000 square feet. Since CenseoHealth’s inception in 2009, the Company has grown from just three corporate employees to over 300 this year. The Company’s network of over 2,000 physicians is expected to visit health plan members in their homes in more than 40 states this year.

“Our recent growth is both exciting and humbling,” said Bales W. Nelson, President of CenseoHealth. “Our growing staff of dedicated employees and industry experts are clearly the drivers of the Company’s success. This is truly an exciting time to be a part of CenseoHealth and I expect this growth to continue well into the future.”
